Goose was a game created in first year to show what I had learnt in the PDM (Programming for Digital Media) 1 and 2 modules. These had a focus on programming in JavaScript, with the P5.js library providing extra creative functionality. I decided to use this library to create a browser game where the player must explore the map as a goose, collecting keys to progress through the levels. This game won the Spotlight award at the 2025 Interactive Media Showcase, a yearly event that shows off work from students in my department. The award was for a first year project with exceptional creativity and execution. This game was one of the first complete projects I made at university, and helped me to build a strong knowledge of web technologies and JavaScript libraries.

Creating this game was a fun challenge that required me to think of creative solutions. As I wasn't using a game engine, I had to program many of the features myself. For example, I programmed a camera system that calculates where the player is in the world and moves either the background or player to create the illusion of movement across the map. I used P5.js features, such as overlaying shapes and text, to create textboxes that appear when NPCs are interacted with, allowing for more immersion within the environment. I drew all of the assets myself, deciding on a pixel art theme to tie everything together and challenge my art skills.
